Southern Rail is Finger Lickin Good!
“Soulful, warm and centered around community, Southern Rail offers flavors of the American South” as perfectly described on their website. Southern Rail is an incredible restaurant created by Chef Justin Beckett and housed in the old Beefeaters locations on 3rd Ave and Camelback. This old building couldn’t have be re-imagined any better! The patio area has to be on the top 10 list of patios in Az and the Changing Hands Bookstore & First Draft Book Bar is a bookstore that needs to be visited!
We tried the roast beef Po’Boy with debris gravy, horseradish, and mayo which I was warned about if I had any meetings to attend after, it’s a bit messy. Let’s just say I was very thankful for the second napkin that was delivered without asking for it! The Po’Boy was spectacular! I found myself licking each and every finger dripping in the gravy mixture (probably the only time I wish my ex-wife was around…she hated when I licked my fingers! Would have annoyed the hell out of her!) Having yet to be where this creations roots are from, New Orleans, I am thankful to have a restaurant in town that can broaden my tastebuds! The other dish that’s a must is the fried green tomatoes! Again having yet to experience this dish (which I was only aware of due to the movie Fried Green Tomatoes), you need to go out of your way to and indulge!
The Southern Rail is on the west end of the light rail and an absolute must to add to your Arizona Food & Wine favorites list! Heck…take the rail to the rail!
