Fenix Beer y Music Fest at Helio Basin Brewing Company

When I created the concept for the Tap That AZ Podcast I knew that the intro music was an essential piece to the show since it would be the very first thing people hear when they listen to every single episode. Music is a huge part of my life so choosing the song was super important to me. I imagined spending hours sifting through royalty free songs through a range of websites to find the right one but then it came to me all at once. Rewind a few years back to McDowell Mountain Music Festival. A local band was crushing it on the side stage. So much so that from that day on I followed this local band and told everyone I could how awesome they were. When it came time to find the appropriate theme song it was a no-brainer. With the podcast being focused on Arizona-made beverages I wanted the sound to be Arizonan as well. In my opinion I don’t think anyone does that better than Fayuca. I reached out to founder/singer/guitarist Gabo and asked if I could use their song “La Negra Tomasa” and he quickly responded with an emphatic “Hell yeah!”

As the universe would have it we eventually crossed paths again a few months later through our great friends at Helio Basin Brewing Company. Gabo and his friend BJ from Made in Phoenix got connected with Helio Basin to create a Fayuca-branded beer. Music and beer; the perfect marriage. Add in the phenomenal artistry of Jesse Perry aka Mr. Downtown Phoenix for the can art and you have a real gem of a beer. Fayuca Rizing Xtra Pale Ale is a pale ale with a little more oomph than most pale ales with an ABV of 6.3%. In the age of the haze craze the Fayuca Rizing is more on the side of a piney pale ale with a floral aroma.

To take it to another level everyone involved with Fayuca Rizing decided that the best way to launch this beer was to have Festival de Beer Y Musica a badass musical festival that also benefited the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Two stages, 9 local bands, great beers, and Jesse Perry doing a live painting. Needless to say it was a great time.

This Saturday February 17th will be the second festival, Fenix Beer y Music Fest. This time there will be 14 local bands on 2 stages, 2 guest breweries (Helton and Huss), Jesse Perry painting, award-winning cuisine from Chef Tamara Stanger, and the release of a new beer called Chupacabra Logga. The shindig starts at 1pm and goes until 11pm. Click here for all of the event details.
